Foodie is as bad as boobie.

This week, mrburns.jpgI picked up a copy of Schott’s Food and Drink Miscellany as well as the Danny Meyer book on service and hospitality (I know, really light reading.) Aside from a reminder that Mr. Burns on The Simpson eats, “a single pillow of Shredded Wheat, some steamed toast, and a dodo egg,” for lunch, the book has an entry for the Heirarchy of Gastronomy:



Friand (Epicure)


Goulu (Glutton)

Goinfre (Greedy Guts)

Only the difference between a gourmet–a connoisseur of food and wine– and a gourmand–one whose chief pleasure is eating– is explained.  Foodie is too slang (or dopey) for the list.

Still, the list is a little puzzling.  Is a gourmet synonymous with foodie? And what’s the difference between a glutton and a greedy guts?

    my grandmother called me a “greedy gut” when I jumped the line for more oyster stuffing at Thanksgiving…best advice I ever had,

    I find foodie a completely annoying term. Although boobie is worse. Overly cute, both of them.

    All I can say is that, in Paris, “Le Fooding” has been the rage for a few years… May be time to add a little slang into the list, if they want to
    keep it ‘real…’
