Pisco Sour Crush

Posted in District of Columbia, General Interest by melissamccart on March 8, 2007

piscosour150×236.jpgSo, I’ll never abandon the Dark and Stormy.  And, it’s probably apparent that I really, really like bourbon.  But last night, I ordered a drink that I can’t stop thinking about.  I have a crush on the Pisco Sour.

DC Drinks says of this Peruvian cocktail, “it should be ranked among the top cocktails in a mixologist’s repertoire.” And last April and again in January, The Liquid Muse gave us the back story on pisco, a brandy made from muscat grapes.

In addition to pisco, the drink is made with fresh lemon, sugar, Angostura Bitters, and egg white.  I’m sure most places serve them pasturized, but the way I’ve eaten the past week or so– grasshopper tacos, cassoulet, kitfo— it’s not a raw egg that’ll push me over the edge.

Where can you get a Pisco Sour?  I’m certain that you’ll find it at Cafe Atlantico, PX, and McCormick and Schmicks.  I’m guessing you’ll also find it at The Round Robin and Dino. Where to try your favorite rendition of the Pisco Sour?  Please share in the comments.

Cafe Atlantico. 405 8th Street N.W.

McCormick and Schmicks. 1652 K Street N.W.

PX. 728 King Street N.W.

The Round Robin. 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W.

Dino. 3435 Connecticut Avenue N.W.
